Who is the Enemy?

It is impossible to fight a good fight if you don’t know who you are fighting. Ephesians tells us ;

Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

If you cut the thing you think is your enemy and it bleeds it is not your enemy. In our culture today it is very easy to lose track of who the enemy is because the culture has moved so far from Christianity. ┬áDuring my grandfathers time the culture and Christianity walked hand and hand. Some Christians want to sit around and cry because that has changed. Some try constantly to change it back. Good luck with that. You are working against God’s plan. He said at the end times things would wax worse and worse.

We should look at the positive. It is much easier to be salt and light in this generation than my grandfathers. There is a huge difference today in a child of God trying to be a hearer and a doer of the word and the world. Our job is not to change the culture our job is to be salt and light. That will change some individuals. It is God’s job to change the culture. And never doubt he is doing that according to his plan.

In order to fight the good fight we must remember who Ephesians says is the enemy. If they bleed they are not the enemy. If we can remember that we will hate sin and love sinners. We must hate homosexuality and love homosexuals. We must hate adultery but love adulterers. We must hate strong drink but love drunks. We can not be salt and light without understanding this.

I am reminded of a former abortion doctor’s testimony. A church in the community started protesting outside a clinic he worked at. The owners of the clinic would pay pro abortion protester to stay outside with the pro-life protesters. He said they couldn’t keep abortion protesters because the church group was so nice to the them. ┬áThen one day the doctors car would not start and a couple from the church laid their signs down and come and helped him start his car. God used these things to reach the doctor. Salt and light.

Next blog I will discuss how to engage this culture and be salt and light. Things you should never do and things you must do or your salt will lose its savoriness. God is calling us to be salt and light. That is easy in this culture. You just have to remember who is the enemy.
